R&D Scientist/Engineer

Redeem Solar Technologies is a startup from Graz, Austria.

At Redeem, we bring the most sustainable chemical discoveries to people to boost the quality of life for generations to come. We design and commercialize solar to chemicals solutions for the energy and chemical sector. Our innovative flow photo reactor can make green hydrogen and chemicals with the energy of sunlight using photocatalysis on scale!

This is an opportunity to come in at the ground level and help develop the product for an early-stage team innovating quickly at the intersection of the chemical and energy sectors. We are working to push the boundaries of what is possible in a rapidly evolving field. You’ll work with chemists, engineers, and business experts to build the products that will transform this space. You will have the opportunity to be rewarded with equity in addition to the monthly salary.

The ideal candidate will synthesize novel photocatalyst formylations and carry out the testing using flow photoreactors on several solar to chemicals applications. This individual will experimentally optimize the process conditions using analytics tools and make adjustments where necessary. Additionally, they will provide feedback on the reactor design to the engineering team and keep up to date with academic and industry literature.

Responsibilities

  • Synthesize photocatalysts in the solid or liquid form.

  • Perform photocatalytic reactions in flow.

  • Optimize the catalyst making and testing process.

  • Conduct product stability testing

  • Analyze the product using analytical tools including UV-vis Spectroscopy, IR, GC…

  • Identifying failure modes

  • Screen and evaluate new ideas for photocatalysis.

  • Participate in the planning and execution of R&D activities and resources.

  • Document results in reports, white papers, and academic articles

Qualifications

  • A degree in Material Science or Process Chemistry (Ph. D is preferred but not mandatory if sufficient experimental laboratory experience is provided)

  • Experience in flow and/or photochemistry

  • Experience in heterogeneous catalyst making.

  • Experience in developing technical products/processes.

  • Excellent teamwork skills and written and verbal communication skills.

  • Passion for developing new products and bringing them to market.
